This blog started with small daily paintings then changed to a more personal sharing of projects, events and photos. Enjoy!

Christmas 2009 nodp

A few pictures of our Christmas---early morning, taken with a cold and misty camera---the Nutcracker of course!---My son biting the head off the huge and heavy Christmas gummy on a stick---An apron made from our old couch cover, one I had tie-dyed many years ago, (this is my son's present in the making)---A nativity scene, my daughter, granddaughter and I put together using what we had on hand plus some fake snow---finally a glimpse at the calendars we've put together for gifts. Hope you all had a great holiday!

Party!! nodp

The party scene before kids--I really should have taken the same views, after the party, but I didn't think of it. All went well, and then.....my daughter who lives a good 10 hour drive away, and who wasn't expected to show up till two or three days later, knocked on our door in the evening while we were sitting, reflecting back on the day's events and surprised us all!! My granddaughter screamed and ran into her arms. I just stood there stupefied, questioning the sanity of my mind--extremely happy!

Little Treasures nodp

My sister Martha made these little sweet stuffed babies as a part of a mobile for one of my babies. Through time the mobile was dismantled and the babies were played with, lost, found, moved with us from home to home, stuffed away, cleaned out, stored away for twenty some odd years and then recently unearthed once again much to my granddaughter's delight!

Sewing a Birthday Skirt nodp

I thought this skirt would only take an afternoon, but having put it together without a pattern (even though it's an easy elastic waist skirt), took a bit longer--plus I used and old shirt for the bottom ruffle, so I pieced it together--and then I had the great idea of finishing all the inside seams--why? Because I'm crazy and I just like the look and it wears longer--also the inside seams bother her skin, I thought this might help. I love using this old singer straight stitch machine. I've done paintings of it here and here.

Bird Feeders nodp

I've been collecting these little orange juice containers for the kids (at the party of course) , so they can paint them. I've bagged up zip lock bags of bird seed to go with them. I'm about ready except for cleaning--I need to go through everything and get rid of half or more of it!!!

Even more party favors nodp

Alright--yes--I am nuts--I'm going overboard on this party favor thing (I've even toned it down from my previous plans--too embarrassed to go into that--another time though--I have another "little project" on the back burner, but I nixed it for the favor bags) This one, 'The Magic Elastic Button String', is very simple to make, so only took the time to paint and drill...well...then I did draw out instructions....

More party favors nodp

I also had left over pinwheel supplies--my granddaughter helped me paint these last night--I've never painted a bunch all the same before, but it simplified the whole process and reminded me of installation art--imagine a whole room full of these--twirling! Along with a little painting, I tell a bit about my pinwheel making here.

Party Favors nodp

There's a birthday party coming up--(all girls) I'm putting together a bag of party favors. I made these little dolls from some left over art teaching supplies. I had a little bag of head and body beads all made and cooked from Sculpty clay. I just had to add the arms, legs, dress, ect... OK, but now I'm into this and want to make every little thing that goes into these party bags--even to the point of making the bags!--I can go a little overboard just because...I just love making things! but I need to be realistic--time and Christmas coming so fast--well, I'll let you know how it all goes...

Young Boy with His Dog II

I've finished this commission. Maybe you remember the first painting I did of this pair? Well I'm hoping this one is well received.
With birthdays coming up and Christmas, I'll be busy making gifts with my granddaughter--I'll be posting a bit of their progress without giving too much away.

Gordon Laite, once again nodp

I'm working on a commission, so my revisited painting is of this page in the golden book,
'Toads and Diamonds II' I just may do more! It was a lot of fun to try to paint these illustrations--I remember, as a child, just sitting and staring at every page!
