Rescue of the Flower Princess

Yes, time once again for a collaboration. A part of my world is living in the land of Princesses, queens and anything sparkely, shiny, fuzzy or pink. Even as I write this my granddaughter is changing into her pink dance costume to get ready for her wedding. I'm getting to know all those fairy tales once again and once again I wonder how and where they came from--from once upon a time, a long time ago. In one of the versions of Snow White, her step mother, the evil queen not only asks the huntsman to take Snow White into the forest to kill her and bring back her heart,(which is horrible enough!), but she, the evil queen, eats the heart!!! I found myself just reading along la de da...and whoops! too late. That was a piece of information she didn't need to hear--we were sort of researching some of the older versions of all the fairytales. I thought it would be fun!

Morro Rock, and Pelican

I went out to a point that looks back on Morro Bay. There were many dug out Indian bowls in the surrounding rocks. This poor pelican must have died during the night--the vultures and even the bugs hadn't found it yet--it was freshly dead. I posted these two together because I painted the landscape that I saw just above the pelican, so they do go together one on top of the other. Many, many artists have painted and photographed Morro rock, well...here's another! I couldn't finish these yesterday. The wind came up almost as soon as I got out there, so it was cold--I packed it up and finished them today. Check out these two blogs I found, both are very informative about artist's techniques, with information about other artists and both are fun to read, Maggie Stiefvater, and James Gurney. I've linked them onto my blog

2nd Posting of Caution Bow

OK--I've tried posting this one again to get the yellow the correct tone, but now the back ground is off--the background should be white. Behind the bow is just the white of the paper. It's hard to get this one to look just like the original. I'm leaving the first posting up to see the difference.

Cut Off Fingerless Gloves

I cut the fingers off these store bought gloves. This was at the beginning of my search for fingerless gloves and before I found a set of directions for making them. I squeezed a bead of silver ""sparkle"" glue around the newly cut openings. The glue has since worn off and the gloves are starting to unravel. Crazy, I still wear these though. They fit snug and warm, but if i go out in public, I feel a bit like a bag lady---(I forget I have these on, I hold out my hand for change, the clerk puts the coins in the palm of my worn and raveling gloves with bits of sparkle hanging on, I'm a little embarrassed, it's at that point I should croak out a thank you, stoop over and hobble out the store.)Watercolor 7"x 7"

Blue Fingerless Gloves

These are the first pair of fingerless gloves I tried to knit. They're my clumsy prototype. I later revised the directions. Looks like the gloves are grasping and crawling.......can't..... make it........go on without me..................save yourself! I feel a bit like that right now.

Fingerless Gloves II

These are my favorite gloves right now. I wish I could say I made them. They're men's gloves. I got them at a hardware store. The only thing that looks a little strange when I wear them, is that they say in bright yellow/orange letters along the knuckles, IRONCLAD. Still, they're made well and fit well and the leather palms are good for gripping. My granddaughter calls them my gorilla gloves.

Fingerless Gloves

I was accepted into the daily painters gallery! Check out the widget on my blog, the little window slide show of recent paintings from daily bloggers. I'm wearing it on my blog like a newly acquired scout badge. Now I'm official and I'm nervous, so I had trouble with today's painting. Somehow I missed an hour, and before I knew, it was time to go pick up my granddaughter. I think time moved too fast today!
These are my fingerless gloves made from hemp yarn. There was a time when I was knitting fingerless gloves for everybody, well not everybody, but I did make quite a few. They're good for a day like today, when it's cold and I'm working in my garage, but I still need to use my fingers. I have more than one pair.

Baby with his Angels

I was commissioned to paint a portrait of this baby who has passed on. I felt the baby needed these angels. There's a friendly angel who wants to play with him, and a motherly angel who will care for and watch over this baby. The cherubs are ready to help in anyway they can.

Hugging the Rainbow Lady

My granddaughter has an early day Thursday and Friday of this week, I finished this collaboration last night with her painting and playing by my side. Our heater isn't working and it was a cold CA night--There's frost on the ground this morning, so I curtained off the kitchen, put in a space heater and we hunkered down in the kitchen all evening. It's a tiny kitchen so it got pretty toasty. I hope to get the heater replaced today.

Walking on a Treadmill, Dreaming of Skating

Skating away without the ice--I wish I had a river....or, I wish I had a treadmill that I could walk away on. I wish I had a treadmill so large, I could teach my feet to flyyy!

Cocktail Umbrellas

Had to do it--you could see this one coming--the little cocktail umbrellas--besides, my granddaughter loves them for all her dolls. That little beetle-bug was crawling up and down the umbrellas and posing with wings outstretched at the top of the umbrellas--then it would sort of fly/jump down and check out another one! I painted him in three times. He somehow must have jumped into my water, because I almost poured him down the drain. I saved him and let him dry out under the umbrella. Sort of like a day at the beach with beetle-bug!

Doll's Parasol

My daughter bought this doll's parasol for her sister a long time ago. Before painting it today, I had to fix three broken spines? (the support rods holding up the umbrella) I used wood glue and pieces of split bamboo--a bit tough to do! My granddaughter will be pleased--I hope it lasts. I don't know if I've exhausted the umbrella supply in my house--I might find more...we'll see.

Blue Umbrella

The inner workings of this one is more traditional than the pop up, but just as complicated, maybe more so. It's good to have the time to paint once again, but my granddaughter's transition back to preschool has been rough. I'm having to use all my imaginative resources and lots of patience to have this time to paint. Yesterday I was a dog who retrieved her school clothes to get her dressed and today, I'd sing a song every time she stuck her head in her shirt, then feet in her pants, and so on... I'm exhausted by the time I drop her off!

Pop Up Umbrella

The inside workings of a pop up umbrella--kind of complicated and hard to shut down or fold up. It's the rainy season here--the hills are slowly turning green.

Self Portrait with Child's Handprint

I thought I had a chunk of time when I started this--that got cut short, so I stayed up late to finish. It has a late night look to it.

Windup Duck on Wheels

My daughter's boyfriend gave me this toy for Christmas. It's been the most played with thing besides my husband's new digital camera. The duck winds up and rides around in a circle. The propellers on the top fly up and spin around. (I didn't quite paint to the very top) We've had more fun with this duck---belly laughing fun! Thanks for the great toy!

Pippin with Butterfly Stickers

I was alone for a short time, so I started this painting. Pippin was in the kitchen on a bench against the sticker wall (granddaughter's) Then my husband and granddaughter came home, Pippin moved and we needed the kitchen for dinner. I had to rely on memory to finish. She was falling asleep, but trying to keep an eye on me.
