Hair Stick

Awhile ago I made these hair sticks to sell. To wear these, it helps to have a lot of hair or thick hair; for me, the weight of the wire, yarn and beads will pull the stick out. The stick is whittled from a eucalyptus branch. After the wrapping, the "arms" or tentacles can be twisted however you like--fun--kind of Dr Seuss looking.

Protect

I'm afraid this is more of a self portrait than my previous post. All you psychologists out there, have fun, meanwhile I'll draw what I see! This is a collaboration done on the full moon.

Self Portrait with Lisbeth's Snowflake

Nope, this isn't a stinkbug--decided to do a self portrait. It was tough to paint today--not enough time--had to be here then there--people calling--things to do, but I had fun with this none the less.

Dead Moth

Now I know why I saved this dried up moth. I was looking for a stinkbug to paint, then remembered I had this moth tucked away in a box. I haven't given up on the stinkbug, maybe tomorrow I'll find one.

Pumpkins

I went on a field trip to a pumpkin patch with my grandaughter this morning--didn't know if I'd have time to paint today, but I tried. She picked out the one on the left and we grew the one on the right.

Old Piano

My husband bought this piano at a yard sale for $25 dollars. Someone sawed the ivory off the keys, it looks pretty beat up, but it sounds good! It sits in my garage, so it's like playing outdoors! We don't have many neighbors, so I don't think I bother anyone.

Big Sur Beach

Yesterday I went to the Jade Festival in Big Sur. Lots of jade in all shapes sizes and colors. Lots of people sporting their best jade pendants and rings. I stole away from the not so maddening crowd--mellow would be more like it, hiked up to a this spot to do a tiny segment of that awesome coastline. It was hot and dry sitting on a gravelly side road that led to just one small water tank. The ants were being so bold as to climb onto my paper to drink the water!

Hollister Peak with Venus Rising

Hollister Peak is an inactive volcano, one of a series of seven that form a line from the ocean floor to ten or twelve miles inland. This is the view looking east from my front porch. I added the shiny planet Venus (the planet of love and beauty), because it has been in the eastern early morning sky for awhile and is so incredibly bright. I've been getting up early lately to see it.

Dream Mask

2 One of the assignments for a dream class I took, was to make a mask. Our instructor acted as a guide in a subconscious conversation we had with our masks. I used tissue mache with bent reeds to form the headdress or attached hat. The wings are made of plastic from a milk bottle--very bug like with some kind of winged creature sitting on the front. I burned around all the edges.

Little Guy

One of my children collected these little people. I liked this guy and nabbed him after the collecting phase was over. He sits on my kitchen windowsill and always looks amazed or kind of scared.

Mask

I made this as an experiment for a mask making class I taught. It's fun to wear and fits nicely since I made it from a plaster and gauge mold of my face. The mask is tissue mache with a headdress of rattan, reeds, wire and crumpled computer paper. (I sound like a fashion commentator.)
