This blog started with small daily paintings then changed to a more personal sharing of projects, events and photos. Enjoy!

Keeping an Eye on the Gumdrop Nest

Half day for the preschool, so I could finish this collaboration. OK, storytellers out there, start the story and others can add to it...

Spooner's Cove

Plein-air day at Spooner's Cove. Very big pieces of kelp must have washed in with the storm.

Baby Eucalyptus Buttons

We had a storm with high winds that blew over about five trees and broke many large limbs. Kind of funny, that out of all this heavy debris, I should choose to paint this one very delicate branch with newly formed eucalyptus buttons.

Figure Study

I thought I'd try to paint at a figure drawing group, but I didn't go prepared and came away with two unfinished paintings. I needed a longer pose. I tried to finish this one last night. I'm posting it even though I'm not too happy with it.

Leaves from a Eucalyptus Sapling

I know for sure these are leaves from a eucalyptus sapling, but I'm not sure if the leaves in my previous post are eucalyptus. So I may have lied. I'll figure it out. Watercolor 7"x 7"

Eucalyptus Leaves II

Eucalyptus leaves are strange. On a baby tree, or on a realitively new branch of an older tree, the leaves will be fatter, rounder. You can have two different looking leaves on the same tree. These are the rounder leaves, they come even rounder than this from a sapling---maybe I'll find some for tomorrow--maybe not.

Virgo

My sister suggested we do some collaborations together. She sent me four beginnings and I'm to finish them in any way I please. Since My granddaughter and I both have colds and she doesn't have school, it was a good time to work on this first collaboration. While my granddaughter cut, glued and painted on her own project, I was able to work on and off with Martha's design. Please check out Martha's blog and click on her past post about "coolaborations"

Granddaughter's Guitar

I watched a movie last night called Weeping Camel. A Musician was called upon to help with a camel problem. A mother camel had rejected her baby. First he strapped the intrument onto the mother camel, I think to pick up on the camel's tone, then the musician played some of the same tones while one of the camel's owners, a young mother, sang and stroked the mother camel. Through the music the mother camel weeped and accepted her baby.

Kazoo on Sheet Music

I gave out kazoos in Christmas stockings this year. This one is sitting on sheet music by Brahms, his cradle song. I don't think a kazoo would put anyone to sleep though.

Stink Bug

I finally found a stink bug. He was crawling all over my left hand while I was trying to draw him with my right. He must have escaped from a spider web, because he had sticky web on one foot that kept getting caught and holding him back. I cut that off and let him go.

Snarling Rock Monster of Marina Point

I just had to mess with that last landscape. The rock monster had to show itself. So if you go fishing at the marina point be very very careful, which rock you choose to sit on!!

Marina Point III

I'd be a fool not to do a plein-air painting today. This sort of looks like a snarling monster coming up out of the water--I should just turn it into that.

Asphalt Heart

Don't tread on my asphalt heart, or maybe do tread on my asphalt heart, it's asphalt! This is suppose to be asphalt, but I think I made it look more like a sprinkly heart brownie or some such thing----I tried! This was also found at the beach.

Eucalyptus Pods

Eucalyptus pods, I think. I've seen eucalyptus buttons, I'm not sure where in the growing cycle these pods come in. I think these are from a different type of eucalyptus tree than the one I painted the leaves from.

Eucalyptus Leaves

We've had some rain and winds. Lots of eucalyptus trees have lost their branches. I was walking and found this sprig of leaves I thought looked so graceful.
