Buckle Bow

So I said to myself, "it's time to buckle down and paint the buckle bow." I swear I painted this because it's fun to say, it's better than belt bow. Belt bow baggins--don't bag on my belt bow--I guess that's kind of fun too--still, for all you know it's buckle bow.

Nose Bleed

I thought this collaboration looked like a vampire, but now I think it looks a little like me with a nose bleed! "Don't look at me, I'm hideous, my nose is bleeding" I kept my granddaughter home from school yesterday so another collaboration for all you fantasy fans. She dripped the paint on wet watercolor paper with a dropper--she had fun--the pools of paint took forever to dry. It looks like there's a glare on this picture, like I took the picture while under glass, but no; the paint pooled and dried in such a way that replicates a glare--interesting.

A Bat's Dream

Time for another...COLLABORATION!!...(check out my previous posts). If I can't do a painting, I'll try for a collaboration where my grandchild puts down the paint and I find the images. It just figures that the day (yesterday) I submitted this blog site to the official daily painters website where it will then be juried by a group of artists for about a month or so, I end up spending the day in the hospital with my granddaughter. She bonked her head while at her preschool and I had to take her in to have the gash glued shut--yes they glued it! She's fine, but might be home again today so I may have a run of these imaginative paintings...we'll see.

Danger Bow

I found this tape left over at a construction site. My granddaughter wrapped it around the open doors of her toy cupboard with all her toys spilling out. I may just put it back there!

Toilet Paper Bow

A very lightweight bow, so I had to work inside away from any breeze, but I had trouble with the light inside my house. Feels good to paint again though.

Silk Bow

I paint in my garage if it's a nice day, with the roll up doors open. The breeze kept flipping this light weight bow around--a real tease breeze.

White Twill Bow

I may do a series of bows--I like bows--it's a great simple knot--why is it considered such a feminine thing?

Toads and Diamonds II after Gordon Laite

The elder daughter ran home. "Oh Mother--" she began. At once two horrid toads hopped from her mouth, and two slimy snakes slithered to the ground. The daughter was so frightened that she ran into the woods. She was never heard from again. So ends Gordon Laite week. Hope you have enjoyed these illustrations in his honor. My granddaughter has an early day today so I rushed to get this one done--(as the rude daughter rushes into the woods)...
Whoops! I forgot to paint her little foot! Well, she won't get too far.

Toads and Diamonds after Gordon Laite

"I'm sorry I'm late, Mother," said the pretty daughter. As she spoke, two diamonds, two pearls, and a red rose fell from her mouth. Painting Gordon Laite's illustrations have been fun--like going back through time to my childhood, but also check out the style of dress. Look at that hat the mother has on! Or that puffy shirt/jacket--cool. As a child, this story didn't make much sense to me. I have a strong gag reflex, so hacking up diamonds, pearls and roses seemed more like a curse than a gift.

Beauty and the Beast after Gordon Laite

Each night after dinner, Beast asked Beauty to marry him. But Beauty always said "No." "I don't think I shall ever marry you," Beauty said gently. "But I shall be your friend."
Here's another great illustration created by Gordon Laite. Maybe I'll deem this Gordon Laite week and paint one for each day this week--maybe not--we'll see...

Rapunzel, after Gordon Laite

Do you remember this illustration? "Rapunzel is mine!" she screamed. "You shall die for trying to steal her!" The prince leapt from the window. He fell into a thorn bush and was blinded.
When I looked at this picture long ago, because you can see the whites of his eyes, I thought he was blind! Now I realize he hasn't fallen into the thorn bush yet. I painted this very close to how it looks in the book. If you're out there, Gordon Laite, I hope you don't mind, and thank you! I just love these illustrations--they are a part of my childhood and so are a part of me.

Sunday's collaboration

My granddaughter threw the paint down (literally--she was not in the best of moods at the time) I found these characters. I've been thinking about painting some scenes from an old golden book that I loved as a child, The Blue Book of Fairy Tales illustrated by Gordon Laite. These characters look like they came from that book! I'm not sure what's going on here--feel free to interpret and leave a post--maybe between a few of you a story will evolve.
