Dressing up my Mom's Obituary

This one's my favorite--I think it's because I see my mom as a warrior--especially now that she has conquered life and passed on to the next realm, plus her collar fits the armor so well...

Forgive me Mom.
I don't mean to make fun of my mother by dressing her in these old fashions, but all the pieces were on the table--like a puzzle, (my mom loved puzzles)

In the thick of a snowstorm, my sister in law brought out a box of very old paper dolls and their cut out clothing. (In the box was a letter dated 1918!) Most of these cut outs came from magazines. I can just imagine the excitement and the anticipation that came with each new installment--quick flipping of pages to the latest fashions or the next series of dolls to cut out and all were cut so meticulously!

Amazed, we picked up, looked at, and laid out, fashion after fashion and there, on the table, was my mom's obituary with her head just the right size. One outfit lead to another--I couldn't help myself, but you know, laughter and tears do go hand in hand...

She loved cats and her sun sign was Scorpio--(late October, early November)

Dancing shoes for a dancer...

Keeping the children in line...

This one fits her so well--she had such a love of the outdoors, nature and animals...

Above all, my mom was a good sport, if she could see this post, she'd laugh and say, "That's Susan!" Thanks mom for giving me the freedom to be who I am!

What a fabulous thing to do. My mum too would have found that wonderfully funny and loving, something to share and laugh about. Memories don't have to be all sad. I also used to love the cut out dolls and clothes when I was a kid. You can only buy them now in the old fashioned toy shop in Covent Garden, London. (can't remember the name of it but it's a fantastic place - you would love it).

Hi Martha, I didn't think of the queen of swords--wouldn't she be the queen of cups? Who's Gerald C?--I think I'm going to regret asking this. Thanks for the spell check! I embarrass myself regularly--toughens the skin.

Hi Kris, Hee Hee Thanks!

Hi SMPS, are you family? I was caught off guard by the name susie--family calls me this. Thanks!

Hi Sheila, I hope you're still painting! Thanks!--a part of me thought perhaps this was really not an ok thing to do, but my mom would have thought it funny--that's what gave me the go ahead. If ever I go to London, I'll be sure to check out that toy store!!

Susan, you are awesome, and I'm sure your Mom is to blame, I mean thank, for that. I feel certain she is tickled by your play, and proud of you and Martha and your whole family.

My condolences for your loss. May your memories, and all the loving influence of Mom, remain ever strong.

Hi Michaela--that's a funny one, but she did have six children!

Hi Martha--I was hoping that all the other info about the obits next to mom's were cut off so you couldn't see the full name of the person.

----------

Hi Dar--thank you for the kind and beautifully said words!
