This blog started with small daily paintings then changed to a more personal sharing of projects, events and photos. Enjoy!

Climbing at Spooner's Cove, nodp

Grampa and granddaughter exploring Spooner's Cove at Montana de Oro. This is one of my favorite places!

Well I've been thinking...This blog has changed over time from just little daily paintings to postings of pictures and other creative projects--the blog is morphing--I resisted this change, but change is inevitable!
My time for painting has diminished. I've been wanting to hold onto my spot in the Daily Painters and I've been revisiting some of my earlier paintings that were done before I was accepted into the Daily Painters web, (thinking that was OK since none of those paintings had been posted before on the DP)
Now I believe I should give up my spot and let some other artist have a go at it! (I know there is a waiting list for getting in and I'm feeling guilty that I'm not painting)
I haven't gotten back to painting on a regular basis and I don't think I even want to! Don't get me wrong, I do love to draw and paint, but I love to do other things as well. I'm not sure if this is a wise move--time will tell. I'll still be painting, but I'll also be posting about other things, other projects--some I'll sell--perhaps I'll create an Etsy site?!
I'd love to hear from other artist's who've come to a crossroads--what did you do? what was helpful?
My final revisited painting is, 'Water Balloons'

I think that you (like me) crave/need creative variety and freedom within the constraints of our lives. You are wise to pay attention to what you want, and what you can do, and not force a structure that's not working any longer. LOVE the idea of the Etsy shop!!! You have so many gifts to offer!!!

I'm all for changes. Life isn't static and it isn't a one-size-fits-all proposition. I hope you'll keep posting though -- I really enjoy your pix and the projects you share!!

Thanks Martha and Chris--yes I've started making an Etsy shop and I'll keep posting things here!

Mom--i think you are making the right choice too. I think this will give you freedom to do so many of the other crafty things you do and not feel like you have to just paint (although i know you love it). I think if you force yourself to keep painting when your not feeling it --it will be reflected in those paintings. So do what you feel like that day even if it means stringing antlers on a string for a necklace, and your art will be better for it because your enjoying it. Or maybe not... :)

Hi Michaela! Good to hear from you--you're right! thanks and I might just try that antler necklace!

On the upside, spending time doing other things could open your mind to fresh, new inspirations, which in turn would reflect on your canvas. Spooner's cove is breathtakingly gorgeous! Definitely one of the masterpieces of nature. Just looking at your wonderful photo with your granddaughter suffices to get my imagination working on a new creative project!

Thank you lunar dancer for your kind comment.

Susan!

First off, great pictures. Spooner's Cove looks incredibly neat! I love the texture of those rocks!

But........

Why on earth are they walking slanted?! Certainly the whole landscape couldn't be on a tilt, could it?!

Now onto more important matters.

My heart skipped a beat at the thought of you giving up painting.

You are just too good to stop!

At least continue to paint every now and then. Or teach! I'd kill to learn some of your techniques!

When I first started my own blog I never intended it to change into what it has now. I originally just planned on showing my artwork. Little did I know it'd become an online diary too!

So, whatever you do, keep creating....however that may manifest and be sure to share it on your blog with the rest of us!

Oh..Thanks Dean! I'm not giving it up, I will be painting and doing other things and posting about it here--thanks for your thoughts! I'm in a slump right now--not too motivated--I'm needing a creative energy boost, but I'm not sure where that will be coming from--I'm feeling age and feeling wear and tear from raising a little one again--I'm not down for the count!

Susan Beauchemin said...

Oh and YES! that landscape IS on a tilt! Wild and wonderful and old and twisted earth!

Thanks Susan!

I probably would've fallen over multiple times then trying to climb that myself! LOL

I'm glad to hear you're not giving up painting completely.

Surrender the idea of what you think you should be doing and be open to letting your creativity manifest however it desires!

Hi Susan, I am guessing a few of us are sort of "taking stock" - I am including myself here. I am still posting fairly regularly but not every single day. I want to concentrate on the why and how of my painting endeavours (and get a bit deeper into the whole process) without always being "in the public eye". I think we have to develop a keen instinct for listening to ourselves and our own rythmns in these things. Good luck to you on whatever paths you choose to follow (and I am sure painting will still always be there).

I agree Dean---surrender the shoulds and be open to creativity--wise words!

Hi Sheila, It's good to hear that other fellow artists are also grappling with change--I like the idea of listening to your rhythms--thanks for the comment!
