My son made this rope from t-shirt yarn on a handmade knitting knotty. This was an art project I did with my students a long time ago. We made the knotties from toilet tubes and popsicle sticks all paper mached together. I would then cut up old t-shirts in a continual spiral strip--stretched to curl. Those kids had me cutting t-shirt yarn like crazy! This one was made with a tie dyed t-shirt.Watercolor 7"x 7"

i remember t-shirt yarn. you had a little sweat shop going where i would make your t-shirt yarn and if it had frayed ends or wasn't a straight enough slips you wouldn't pay me the 5$ per a ball. you were like a t-shirt yarn nazi (just kidding). it was actually a good idea for me to make a few extra bucks when i was a kid.

That's funny Michaela, Yes, I just might have been a T-shirt yarn nazi. I had about four classrooms of kids who, all of them caught onto doing the knotty! We made them so they would have something to do after we worked on other projects, but they loved it so much they'd rush through just to sit and vigorously knit! They had a competition going to see who's could be the longest. You'd think I'd just pick up some regular yarn, but nooo!-----regular yarn just wasn't full enough---T-shirt yarn was perfect for that size knotty----I can be pretty particular! We never really made anything out of that rope, but it turned out to be a great jump rope--it has a good weight to it!
