This blog started with small daily paintings then changed to a more personal sharing of projects, events and photos. Enjoy!

Marine Layer

When it's hot inland, this is what covers the coast. It rolls in and stays put for most of the summer--you can easily drive out of it--this is what it looks like driving back into it--it can be a welcome sight--or not.

We took a break from sewing and went on an adventure into town by foot and by our local Dial-A-Ride. I was hoping the trolley was running--nope--that's on the weekends. While waiting for our ride at a near by Inn, this night heron flew in to drink from the fountain! I guess these birds are fairly common, but I hardly ever see one land right in front of me so close! We were sitting right next to a heron rookery, but still it was exciting to see this one!

Sewing Dolls cont...

I used old T-shirts to make these dolls. My daughter will be giving these to all the children who'll attend her wedding in August. She's keeping her wedding very small. I've started to sew the body--(with face attached) In between my sewing, I worked outside trying to get ride of a whole yard of foxtails! Check out the upper right hand corner--They get into everything--even the cat--I've clipped her fur and keep brushing her when she comes in. I wore my hat, it worked!

We had a little assembly line going--my granddaughter put in a small vile of rice for a little weight, and I stuffed the rest.

I hope the gargoyle approves!

The only way I could sit and sew was to teach my granddaughter how to stitch--this slows me down quite a bit, but she did a great job--her very first stitches!!

Sewing Dolls

I'm sewing dolls! Fashioned after Daisy (the doll you can partially see in the top photo). These are for an upcoming event. I'm taking a break from painting--I'll be back at it in late August or early September when school starts for my granddaughter. Back to sewing!

Making a Summer Hat nodp

I bought this used hat (orange) for my granddaughter and thought about crocheting one for me out of some raffia I had on hand. I know I have all sorts of other projects to finish, but this, I could sit on the floor with the little one while she played with my crochet hooks and raffia. I really didn't even think I'd finish this, but half way through, I thought I could at least use it for a scarecrow hat for Halloween. One thing always leads to another...

From raffia to plastic bags--only because I ran out of the stuff and I wanted to finish this without having to buy anything for it. I saved all the ribbons from the gifts given to us from my daughter--I wove them in to fill some holes...

These series of pictures were taken by my granddaughter. She loved clicking away--I deleted so many, but saved these.

The hat fits us both--it looks so much better on her--it's probably hers now.

Working on Natal Wheels, nodp

As I'm working on a few natal wheels ( a commission), I'm posting through dailypainters.com some of my old paintings. I'm going back to the very first ones when I started painting daily. Today I posted: Ceramic Bird, Cloth Pouch and Feathers.

I'll be painting again, but it looks like I'll need a good chunk of time to finish a few projects and time is precious since today might be my granddaughter's last day of preschool before she starts Kindergarten! in August. You can still purchase paintings if you are so inclined. I'll be checking in, posting pictures and such...

We have a huge chess board here in Morro Bay--I couldn't resist playing around with the light and color.

Tea! nodp

No this is not a painting, and that nodp next to the title ensures that this picture won't be picked up and posted onto the Dailypainters.com

I'll be posting just a few pictures and some progress on a few projects I'm doing, but my painting has to take a back seat. Lots of reasons--my granddaughter's preschool will be closing (next week! just found out about that today)--I'll be traveling--my daughter will be marrying.

From now until June 16, I'll be posting some of my older paintings on the Dailypainters.com website. The paintings will show up on their website, but here, they're listed under my older posts.
Today I posted, "Conditioner" My paintings have changed since then. It's interesting to see that change--even the way I take the picture of the finished painting has changed--(getting to know my digital camera) It's humbling to go back and view it again--I'm shrinking a little inside.

So I wish you could all come over for a luncheon/tea! I do appreciate your visits, your e-mails and comments. I will keep you posted on the other things that I'm creating and I'll get back to painting again--not sure at this point when that will be...

Foggy Day Power Line

This telephone pole is just across the street from my house.
We had Art in the Park here in Morro Bay this past weekend--see below...
Watercolor, 7"x 7"
SOLD

I bought this sweet little (about 3 1/2 x 2") watercolor painting at the Morro Bay art in the Park this past weekend. I just love this painting.

I went right home and framed it using a piece of plexi glass, mat board and tape around the edges. Click on the picture to read their business card.

I also like the idea of two sisters (twins) selling their art together. Check out their web site , Fantasy Art!
Their styles compliment each other, with detailed whimsical paintings--very nicely done!
Cara and Christi also have an Etsy shop.

Power Lines II

More power lines.
Below---fun with paper.
Watercolor, 7"x 7"
SOLD

I love my granddaughter's paper doll--that's her green sink on the right--Gumby just happens to be looking on. I tried to make an old fashion paper doll--the kind I remember my grandmother making for my sister and I.

Grandpa has his own ideas for paper fun.

Power Lines

We lost our power early in the dark of the morning. A friend of mine is hanging an art show with power lines/communication for a theme. I thought I'd do a few small paintings to possibly hang. there are lots of crazy overloaded poles probably in more than one place here in this little town--wires threaded every which way overhead--poles bending--scary looking really!

I have two awards I'd like to take care of in one shot--well that's how I'm going to do it anyway. I'm honored to receive them both, but because of time, I'm sending them out to four people instead of seven for each award.
For the passionate painting award given to me by Chris Beck:

Martha Miller (yes, my sister, but she would get this award anyway, because, well...check out her blog and website)
Dean Grey (What a great self portrait--just full of passion!)
Bruce MacEvory (A very talented watercolorist. Also, another dynamic self portrait)
Don Gray (I love his series of doors--also you may have to go to his older posts, but check out his video of doors!)

The Lemonade Award is given to bloggers that show a positive attitude and/or gratitude. It also exemplifies people who have a willingness to share their ideas, support, and online friendship. (The award is posted on the side of my blog), given to me by Dean Grey: (I wanted to tell about this award when posting my painting of the lemon tree--just pretend I did!)

Barbara Fox (Lovely watercolors!)
Sheila Vaughan (beautiful atmospheric oil paintings!)
Ron Morrison (I particularly like the pile up of junk cars!)
Melissa Mead (A busy mother who happens to do beautiful paintings!)

As I'm linking, I'm realizing that all of these people deserve the passionate painter award and all deserve the lemonade award, so you may choose either award, or both, or none! Why not?! If you want to follow the rules you'll put a link to where you got the award, then list seven people deserving of--linking to them as well and telling each one, somewhere on their blog that they have received the award. You can also list, if you wish, seven things you love. Here are mine:

My family, Breakfast, The moon, Walking, Creating things (all kinds of things!), Tea (There goes the kettle), Reading a good book, Camping, Magic, Music... I have more than seven, I could go on and I'm not being very specific, like what kind of tea and what foods for breakfast and where do I like to camp and what type of music---I'm just keeping it as short as I can--must go pick up my granddaughter--speaking of love...

Pastel Skirt Laundry

I had all these great ideas of linking any other paintings having to do with clothes hanging on a line. It's a good idea, but I need to play with my granddaughter before she gets way too upset with me for being on this computer!!
Below--we had more Unicorn fun--notice I had to make a home for him--someplace to hang him, or else the strings would tangle if we put him down--we had him hanging on the edge of things, a shelf, the table, a window sill with a heavy something holding down his controls, but that just wasn't working. Then we organized and moved this bookshelf--her books were getting out of control--I should have taken a picture of that!

Lemon Tree

I get to this point of posting and always I have a block as to what to say! I'm more of a visual person, but I do love to read. So while sitting under my lemon tree this humming bird came along--she was interested in the water--I had the hose on the tree in a slow drizzle. I think she must have smelled the water since it wasn't making any noise and it wasn't spraying into the air.

Hold Me

I'm finding that at the age of five, there is a little reverting back to baby ways--my granddaughter is getting old enough to know that she's getting older--moving on to older things--so she's curious about her baby days and loves hearing stories about that time.

This past weekend was the Dega Days art show at Pacific Dance. I brought in five paintings. I was honored to have Eric Peterson and his wife buy two of them. Eric Peterson is a nationally recognized illustrator and art instructor. Check out his web site. I'll put my other dance paintings back up for sale--in case anyone was interested.

So I made some very unprofessional cards. Since I punched holes in them, I figured I'd make a wooden stand to display them. I used my painting of a stink bug on the cards, so they came out looking like business cards of an exterminator, that's when I knew I had to add some color, sparkles, and little colorful stickers. Oh well, I did have fun creating them!

Speaking of bugs--I don't know what kind of bug engraves these tracks, but I love the designs they make!

Bubble play--I have the yellow straw, but took a break to take these pictures.

My granddaughter was in a parade as a mermaid with her dance troop--letting the community know of the upcoming Little Mermaid performance on June 27th. It was a busy weekend!

I haven't forgotten about passing along that award to other artists--I'll get to that--I will!!
