Island Knot

I'm back from my visit back east. I went to my niece's wedding on Little Cranberry Island. Check out my sister's blog for some beautiful pictures of the wedding and island flowers. There is lots of rope on this island. Bundles of rope in almost every yard. Most I think is for catching lobsters.

Knot IV

This is my last post before flying back east. I'll be gone for two weeks, visiting family and attending weddings. I'll take my drawing supplies with me. If I have time I'll do a few sketches for future paintings. I'll be back to posting on the 29th. Our front yard is a wild life show! It's quite a thing to see this buck come through the yard, let alone a buck with a bird on its back!

Knot III

I was told today by a passer by, that what I'm doing is knot art. I didn't know whether I should be offended or knot.

Knot II

Today I shook the Fire Chief's hand. (read previous post) Painting knots makes me think about an old tradition I read about...back in the time when women had their babies at home. (I know women still do have babies at home), but this was back further in time. While the labor was happening, the family would untie any knots in and around the house, open up any closed door or gate to aid in the smooth delivery of the baby. That makes me think, what about the cattle, the livestock? Better not deliver in a big old tent like this temporary fire station that's being held up with ropes!

Knot

Just one of the knots tying down the tent acting as a temporary fire station here in Morro Bay. A new station is being built across the street. While sketching, I was questioned as to what I was doing. I may go back and sketch the other knots, there are some good ones!

White Twill Bow

I may do a series of bows--I like bows--it's a great simple knot--why is it considered such a feminine thing?
