that's a pelican! I love watching them. They'll drop beak first into the ocean to catch a fish. They'll fly low along the shore close to a wave, riding it in the sky.
Oh yes--that did happen--with his two handed bomber kite--now the truth comes out, it wasn't just a sunny windy day--it was a day the kites did battle. Hello Kitty was severed, but later retrieved.
